Email privacy notice

1. Personal data collected

When you join the waitlist, Footnotes records your email address, the date and time of your sign-up, and the fact that you signed up through beta.footnotes.world. No other personal data is collected through this page.

2. Purpose and lawful basis

Your email address is used solely to notify you when the Footnotes app becomes available and to invite you to take part in its beta. The lawful basis for this processing is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR, given when you submit the form.

Footnotes does not sell your email address, does not use it to send marketing for any other product or service, and does not disclose it to any third party other than the service providers named in this notice.

3. Service providers

The waitlist is stored by Supabase, which provides Footnotes' database. This page and the sign-up service are hosted by DigitalOcean. Each provider processes data only on Footnotes' instructions.

These providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers offer (UK or EU adequacy decisions, or standard contractual clauses).

4. Cookies and visit records

This page sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking technologies. The server does not keep a log of visits to this site.

To prevent automated abuse, the sign-up service keeps a temporary count of submissions from each network connection. This count is held in memory only, is never written to storage, and is cleared automatically.

5. Retention

Your email address is kept until your beta invitation has been sent and the waitlist has closed, after which it is deleted. If you withdraw your consent before then, it is deleted at that point.

6. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you may withdraw your consent at any time, and you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of the personal data Footnotes holds about you. To exercise any of these rights, email kyra@footnotes.world. Footnotes will respond within one month.

7. Complaints

If you are concerned about how your personal data has been handled, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

8. Changes to this notice

Footnotes may update this notice. The date at the end of this notice shows when it was last changed.

9. Who is responsible for your data
